Blueberry Thyme Saison from Terrapin

As the craft beer world grows ever larger, it's artistic form is pairing more and more seamlessly with one of the world's oldest arts – culinary. And Terrapin Brewery out of Athens, GA is definitely on the front lines of this endeavor with their Terrapin's Side Project series that has given us the like of Guano Loco, Turtleneck and Smoke on the Porter. Their latest release though is more inline with the culinary arts than many of it's predecessors, introducing Blueberry Thyme Saison (#31) – a "flavorful and bright, this beer can also be used as an ingredient in your own beer cocktail," according to the brewers at Terrapin. And at 9.1% ABV and only 22IBUs, it may just well prove to be one amazing cocktail.

For us at Just A Sip, this provides an interesting direction since we're normally not a fan of the blueberry, or any fruit beers for that matter, but when it's done well it is done well. The addition of thyme in this one may just help to offset the sweetness from the blueberry and make for one refreshing and delightful drink.

We will definitely be trying this in a beer cocktail too, per se this one from Saveur, since it sounds delicious but who has time to make their own "blueberry shrub"? We'll just skip the shrub and sub for the Blueberry Thyme Saison. Thanks, Terrapin, for making our lazy hipster dreams come true. What about you? Are you up for trying this one out?
